STATUES
Via the media of improvisation, our aim is to find a common landscape between the sound and the movement without assimilating, at the same time, the forms with which each media is expressed.
The autonomy and the coexistence of two persons, in in their idiorythmical attitude, was always a social contradiction and constitutes our major reflection. Dance and music cannot fuse and everything is based upon their physical promiscuity which is the only common reference.
STATUES is a duo of dance and music improvisation with the saxophonist Ilan Manouach and the dancer Federica Porello.
In 2014 they continued the collaboration project that started in 2006, when they first met in Brussels, during a residency at L’animal e l’esquena (Celrá, Girona). The premises where the same: to find a common landscape between sound and movement via improvisation, while in the same time dealing with questions of autonomy and coexistence. Having as a starting point the impossibility of fusion between music and dance, they experiment tools that can help them navigate that landscape
During the residency they alternated the practice of improvisation with the listening of Roland Barthes’ Lectures in College de France, entitled Vivre Ensemble.
